Record-breaking day at Schomp meet

Nine meet records were broken on Saturday at the annual Schomp Invitational, held at Exeter/West Greenwich.

North Kingstown, which captured the boys’ team title, broke three marks for the afternoon. Senior Zachery Emrich easily captured the 400-meter run with a fast time of 48.9 seconds. Teammate Benjamin Stewart broke the record in the 300 intermediate hurdles with a season-best clocking of 39.2. The Skippers also etched their name in the books with its first-place 4x400 squad that was timed in 3:25.1.

East Greenwich dipped under the old mark in the 4x800 relay with a combined time of 8:09.2 and Classical’s Abdul-Lateff Orulebaja leaped a winning and meet-record distance of 46 feet, 3.75 inches in the triple jump..

On the girls’ side, Classical senior Bianca Donadio tied the meet record in the pole vault with a height of 10-6. The Purple’s Maddy Berkson was uncontested with her record-breaking run of 10:05.8 in the 3,000m and teammate Alva Hicks broke the old mark in the discus by 15 feet with a distance of 147-02. In the hammer, Narragansett senior Leia MIstowski moved up to No. 4 on the national list with a personal best of 175-3.

La Salle copped the girls’ crown by beating runner-up Classical, 83-69.
