Eagles, Kelly sweep Throwers' Pentathalon

Adam Kelly and his Barrington High teammates took home all the hardware at the Cumberland Throwers' Pentathalon on Tuesday.

Kelly placed first in two individual events, tossing the hammer a winning distance of 65.71 meters (215. feet, six inches) and unleashing the discus a distance of 38.51 meters (126-3). The Eagle standout  collected 2,504 points in the five events, which also included the 25-pound weight, javelin and shot put.  He was more than 500 points ahead of runner-up Connor Fugere of Woonsocket, who finished with 2,440 points. Fugere, the indoor shot put champion, won his specialty with a toss of 14.22 meters (46-7).

In the other two events, Moses Brown's Owen Russell had the best distance in the 25-pound weight with a heave of 20.36 meters (66-8) and Narragansett's Ethan Wright had the top throw in the javelin at 54.86 meters (180-0).

As a team, Barrington earned the plaque with a total of 5,958 points. Woonsocket was second with 5,532 points and Lincoln placed third with 5,100 points. The meet was held at Tucker Field.
