Rhode Island and Massachusetts’s athletes held their own (and more) during the first two days of competition at the 46th annual Glenn D. Loucks Games in White Plains, N.Y.
On Friday, Bay View Academy senior Erica Johnson clocked a career-best of 2 minutes, 11.35 seconds to take third in the 800-meter run. Sabrina Southerland of Benjamin Cardoso (N.Y.) won the race. Southerland, who copped the 800 crown at the New Balance National Indoor (NBNI) Championship, crossed the line in 2:06.97, the nation’s second fastest time this season. The field was minus Classical junior Maddy Berkson, a third-place finisher in the 800 at the NBNI meet.
Bishop Feehan junior Abby McNulty, a Cumberland resident, had a big-time PR in the 3,200. McNulty placed second overall with an outstanding 10:28.05 clocking. Entering the meet, McNulty’s previous best was a 10:51.14. Taking fourth in the event, also with the fastest effort of her young career, was La Salle Academy sophomore Sheridan Wilbur, who finished at 10:31.71. Staples (Conn.) freshman Hannah DeBalsi, the New England indoor two-mile champion, captured the individual title with a time of 10:20.7 (US #10).
Hope sophomore Quashira McIntosh was fourth in the 100. New Rochelle (N.Y.) freshman Symone Darius broke the tape a winner at 12.19. McIntosh was timed in 12.38.
On Thursday, Notre Dame Academy placed fourth in the freshmen-sophomore distance medley relay. The quartet of sophomore Elizabeth Baker, sophomore Tara LeVangie, freshman Sarah Fay and sophomore Elizabeth Constantino combined for a time of 13:38.98.
