M-F Athletic Athlete of the Week

MileSplit RI would like to congratulate East Providence junior Ryan Williams and North Kingstown senior Maria Bolibruch as our M-F Athletic male and female Athlete of the Week (April 29 – May 5).

Williams has shown great potential as a sprinter ever since he made it to the finals of the 55-meter dash as a freshman at the indoor state meet in 2011. Last year, the E.P. sprinter earned all-state honors by taking second to former Hope star Jarell James in the 200 at the outdoor championship.Williams will be looking to win his first individual title this spring and is on track to achieving that goal. On Saturday, he continued his mastery in the sprints by winning the 100 and the 200 at the Rick Schomp Invitational. In both events, Williams posted the state’s best, taking the 100 at 10.6 seconds and the 200 with a meet record of 21.9.

Bolibruch, a standout hurdler, has also been a force since the ninth grade. She was second in the 55 hurdles as a frosh and won back-to-back indoor crowns the last two years. The Skipper standout is aiming to win her first outdoor title in the 100 hurdles and is currently ranked No. 1 in the event. In what was perhaps a preview of the upcoming state meet, Bolibruch defeated her two biggest rivals at the Schomp meet - defending outdoor champion Angela Ragosta of Smithfield and Cumberland’s Breigh Souliere, twice a runner-up on the indoor surface. She matched the meet mark and set a personal best by winning the race with a 14.8 clocking, a time she also registered in the preliminaries.
