MileSplit RI would like to congratulate Woonsocket High junior Connor Fugere and Hope sophomore Quashira McIntosh as the M-F Athletic male and female Athlete of the Week (April 15-21).
Fugere, a runner-up in the shot put at the indoor state meet, has been a valuable point-scorer for the Villa Novans in the field events, often earning multiple victories in a single meet. On Monday, he was second overall to Barrington's standout thrower Charlie Ionata at the annual Cumberland Throwers Pentathlon. Fugere won the shot with a toss of 49 feet, 11 inches, just a few feet shy of his personal best of 52-0. He was fourth overall in the hammer this past Saturday at the New York Relays on Randall Island where he had a heave of 189-1.
The Blue Wave’s McIntosh, a multiple state champion and record-holder, continues to excel in the sprint events this season. Earlier this spring, she represented her homeland at the CARIFA Games in Nassau , Bahamas where she set an R.I. mark in the 200 with her fifth-place time of 24.48 seconds. She also was seventh in the 100 and ran a PB of 12.09 in her preliminary heat. This past Saturday at the N.Y. Relays, McIntosh won the 100 at 12.33 and was second in the 200 with a time of 24.89.
