This past weekend, summer decided to make its final curtain call on one of the busiest cross country weekends of the season. From New York to Manchester, we saw a wide representation of New England teams toe the line in some hot and exciting races. Every region offered events for your cross country fix, whether it was Friday or Saturday. The Meet of the Week for Mass Milesplit was the Frank Kelley Invitational, but that doesn’t mean we weren’t working hard to bring you coverage from races throughout the area. Here is a recap of the major meets that took place in New England this weekend.
Runners heat it up during two-day event at Goddard State Park in Warwick, R.I.
The popular two-day meet begins this Friday with a series of six middle-school races and concludes on Saturday with 14 high school races.

Rhode Island had three individual winners and five team champions during the middle school competition at the eighth annual Ocean State X-C invitational on Friday afternoon.
The eighth annual Ocean State Invitational will be held the weekend of Sept. 27-28. In last year’s event nearly 4,500 high school and middle school runners competed in the popular two-day event at Goddard State Memorial Park, located on 1095 Ives Road in Warwick, R.I. The meet directors are a trio that’s familiar with hosting quality events, former Brown University coaches Bob and Anne Rothenberg and longtime road race director and former North Kingstown High coach Charlie Breagy, primary organizer of the CVS Downtown 5K and more than a dozen other footraces in Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts.
