Teams and Athletes to Watch at Divisionals

Northern Division

Cumberland has dominated this division for more than a decade and it doesn't appear anything will change this time, too. As always, the Clippers have every event covered with the ability to score multiple points in most of them.

The Clippers' Sean Laverty has put together one of his best indoor campaigns and is entered in the 1,500m and the 1,000m. Laverty and senior teammate Will Mardo are the top seeds in the longer race with Mardo getting the No. 1 distinction with his best of 4:12.36. Laverty has a seed time of 4:14.95. He's capable of running at least 10 seconds faster. But with a time that is just under 10 seconds better than the No. 3 seed, he'll more than likely work with Mardo to secure the 1-2 spots and conserve some energy for later in the meet when he toes the line in the 1,000m. In that event, he has the best time in the state with his PB of 2:34.09.

Cumberland also has the ability to score high points in the sprint events. Senior David Lazenberry is the two seed in the 55m dash with a best of 6.94. In the 300m, senor Chase Craven (36.98) and Denser Martinez (38.74 )are 2-3 among seeds. The Clippers' Michael Coppolino is a two seed in both the shot (43-9) and the weight (63-3).

Woonsocket, a team that's capable of placing in the top three, should accumulate a considerable amount of its points from the weight and shot, at least 30. Jared Briere is the No. 2 weight -thrower.in the state and the best in the division with his best of 68-2.5. He's also ranked among the top  six in the shot put. Jacob Greenless, Dilyn Cote and Raikon Woodmansee can also score points in both events.

The long jump should be an interesting event. The top six jumpers have done better than 19 feet with Patrick Bullen of St. Raphael Academy at No. 1 with a best of 20-0.5.

Central Falls' Yuery Galva is the runner to beat in the sprint events is ranked No. 1 in the 300m (36.27) and the 55m dash (6.82). The Warriors could score close to 20 points in the 600m with Samuel Adofo (1:28.00) and Jailson Varela Sanches (1:28.35) the top two seeds.

Mount St. Charles' CJ Berg should dominate the 3,000m where he'll be looking to improve on his solid 8:55 clocking.
