Frosh State Meets: Hawks, Skippers snare top prizes

Harry Antone and Connor Sheridan were each double-winners as Bishop Hendricken claimed the boys' crown at the Freshmen State Meet Tuesday afternoon in Westerly. The Hawks defeated second-place North Kingstown, 115-79.

In Coventry, Tereza Bolibruch earned three gold medals to lead North Kingstown to the girls' title. The Lady Skippers beat runner-up La Salle Academy, 99-74.

The Hawks' Sheridan took the pole vault with a height of 11 feet, 7 inches. He was also first across the line in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.9 seconds. Antone captured the 400m dash in 52.4 and the 800m at 2:07.7.

Mount Pleasant's Abena Sohn and Jacob Gelineau of South Kingstown battled it out in the sprint events. Sohn finished first in the 100m at 11.1 and was second in the 200m at 23.4. Gelineau took runner-up honors in the 100m, also at 11.1, and was victorious in the 200m in 23.3.

East Greenwich ninth-grader Dante Prossada ran a fast time of 4:17.0 to win the 1,500m. He was a few strides ahead of Toll Gate's Nik Reygadas, who was timed in 4:18.10.

Bolibruch, the state's best in the 100m hurdles, won that event with ease in the girls' meet with her winning time of 15.3. She also copped the 300m hurdles in 50.0 and the long jump with a distance of 16-11.

East Greenwich standout Laura Murphy also won thrice. She dominated the sprint events with times of 12.6 in the 100m and 26.5 in the 200m. Murphy also broke the tape in the 400m, where she ran 1:01.20. She was also second in the long jump where she matched the leap of Bolibruch at 16-11.

Westerly's Randi Burr took the 800m (2:21.60) and the 1,500m (4:49.6). South Kingstown's Ellie Lawler was a convincing winner in the 3,000m at 10:48.20.
