Classical Classic: Eagles' Colantonio improves on nation No. 1, Knights' Djero multiple sprint champion

Bobby Colantonio improved on his nation No. 1 in the hammer by a whopping five feet at the Classical Classic! The Barrington High junior unleashed a winning toss of 243 feet, 7 inches at Saturday's meet, held at Conley Stadium.

Colantonio's performance highlighted a meet that saw several top-class efforts at the state-meet qualifier.

Central sophomore Donatien Djero captured the Large School sprint events, winning the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.9 seconds and the 200m at 22.3. He also ran a leg on the school's winning 4x400m relay that edged North Kingstown by .30 with a first-place time of 3:27.30.

East Providence's Alejandro Duarte clocked a personal best of 49.60 to take the Large School 400m. He also earned gold in the long jump with a distance of 19-11.5.

In the javelin, Barrington's Jamie Heinl won the Large School event with a state-leading toss of 172-01.

La Salle Academy's talented distance trio of sophomore D.J. Principe (8:40.80), junior Matt Bouthillette (8:40.90) and junior Jack Salisbury (8:41.00) took the top three positions in the 3,000m. Cumberland junior Sean Laverty was fourth with a PR of 8:43.50.

Classical's Nathan Narcisse won the Small School 100m dash at 11.2 and was also first in the 300m hurdles at 41.60. Teammate Robert Newell climb to the top of the rankings in the pole vault by clearing a height of 13-6. Barrington's Jon Cavanaugh took the Large School event at 13-0, which ties for No. 2 statewide.
