Less than 24 hours after finishing third in the hammer at the NY Relays, Moses Brown senior Owen Russell was back in his element (and a little more) on Saturday.
Russell was first in the discus, hammer and 25-pound weight en route to the overall title in the Cumberland Throwers Pentathlon at Tucker Field. The Quaker standout scored 2,552 points.
In the team competition, Woonsocket defeated second-place Lincoln by compiling 4,525 points to the Lions' 4,470 points. Jared Briere was the top-point scorer for the Villa Novans. He was second in the hammer and 25-pound weight and also was a runner-up in the individual standings.
Russell, who ranks third in the nation in the hammer, tossed that implement a distance of 65.25 meters (214.07 feet). He won the discus with a throw of 39.84m (130.70 feet) and had top honors in the 25-pound weight at 19.99m (65.58 feet).
Lincoln's Joe Taylor had the best distance in the javelin with a heave of 46.26m (151.74 feet) and Cumberland's Andrew Walter was the winner of the shot put at 13.91m (45.63 feet).
