Indoor Track: Five Boys To Watch In Middle/Long Distance Events

Joe Craven, senior, North Kingstown

Craven, the only non-La Salle runner on the list, is one of the state’s best returnees for the middle-distances. He was second in the 1,000m at the indoor states last year where he ran his personal best of 2:36.60. Craven was also a big part of the Skippers’ state championship outdoor team. He finished second in the 400m at 50.57 and was on their first-place 4x400m and 4x800m relay squads. Craven also ran a leg on North Kingstown’s record-setting 4x800m squad at the New Balance Nationals that clocked a state mark of 7:37.62 for third overall. Depending on which event he picks, the Skipper runner has a chance to earn gold in either the 600m or the 1,000m. In the shorter race, he has a PB of 1:25.70, the fastest time among all returnees.
