Indoor Track: Five Boys To Watch In Middle/Long Distance Events

Jack Salisbury, junior, La Salle

Jack is the defending state titlist for the 1,500m and 1,000m and there’s no reason to believe he can’t accomplish the feat again this season. The Ram standout was injured for most of the cross-country season with a hip issue, but came back in time to compete at the state meet all the way through his squad’s magical run to the Nike Cross Nationals last week. Based on what he ran during the four-meet span, which also included the New England Championship and the NXN Northeast Regional, Jack is close to his old self. While he does excel on the cross-country trails when he’s healthy, it’s the oval that is really his forte. Jack is the defending New England champion in the mile where he ran his best of 4:17.36. He owns the fastest time in the state for the 1,500m (4:01.06) and the 1,000m (2:35.20). When he’s healthy and on his game, there’s no fiercer competitor than Jack.
