Former Barrington High standout Charlie Ionata and Central grad Clarence Gallop didn't advance to the finals of the hammer throw at the IAAF World Championships, but the two Rhode Islanders did have solid efforts on Thursday afternoon. Ionata had a personal best toss of 69.93 meters (229-05) and Gallop was just off his best with a distance of 65.95m (216-04). MileSplit national editor Brandon Miles had a chance to talk with both weight-throwers after their preliminary rounds.
