Cumberlandfest 5K this Saturday

The 24th annual Cumberlandfest 5K, a race that attracts a fair number of local high school stars, will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Diamond Hill State Park.

Last year's event was won by a pair of Cumberland grads with Tom Fownes winning the overall title with a time of 16 minutes, 41.6 seconds and Lauren Lapierre, a URI student, claiming the women's crown with a 19:33 clocking, good for tenth overall.

The USATF sanctioned, out-and-back 5K race is held in conjunction with the town's annual summertime festival. Awards are given in six different age categories and T-shirts to the first 100 that register. The entry fee is $16 before Aug. 7 and $18 the day of the race.

For the first time in the race's history, there will be online registration. Just click here.
