R.I. outdoor T&F records: Will any marks fall this spring?

Former Westerly standout Andrew Springer

Below are the R.I. outdoor track & field records. Will any marks fall this season?  Several appear to be in jeopardy, while others still seem untouchable. The oldest record belongs to Dan Blount of Moses Brown, who set the long jump mark of 24 feet, 0.50 inches in 1936. That's one of those records that may be unattainable this year, although BIshop Hendricken junior Lee Moses may have that one in his sight in the near future. He already has broken 23 feet this year, leaping 23-0.5 at the class meet during the indoor season.

Westerly great Andrew Springer owns five very impressive records. At the Midwest Distance Gala on June 13, 2009, he inked three of those marks en route to his mile time of 4:02.7, also a New England record. Along the way, he passed 1,500 meters in 3:45.46 and the 1,600m in 4:01.06. Springer also holds records in the 3,000m in a hand-held time of 8:23.3 and the 5,000m at 14:56.46, a mark that Bishop Hendricken senior Colin Tierney came a few seconds from eclipsing at last year's New Balance National Outdoor Championships.

Classical senior Maddy Berkson and Hope junior Quashira McIntosh hold two records apiece. Berkson owns the 800m (2:08.40) and the 1,500m (4:27.92) marks and McIntosh has the all-time best in the 100m (11.86) and the 200m (24.21). Both have a chance to rewrite those records.

MileSplit RI would now like your opinion. Do you think any records will be broken this spring? If so, which ones do you feel will fall? Just post your comments in the section below.
