Several Records Could Fall At Hawk Invite

North Kingstown's super freshman Sam Toolin (1) has an outside chance at the 800-meter record, a mark that has stood for 47 years! The record is 1:53.7 by Hope's Joe Comer in 1969, a clocking that has been converted from Comer's 1:54.4 for 880 yards. Toolin goes into the meet with his best of 1:55.2, which he did at the Schomp Invitational a few weeks ago. Although a two-second improvement would seem out of reach, especially for a ninth-grader, we wouldn't be surprised if Toolin goes after this record based on what he has done so far this spring. Last week at the Class A meet, he clocked the fastest time in the nation for 1,500 meters by a freshmen with a third-place effort of 3:54.20.
