Cole, Barrington claim Middle School crowns

Wakefield seventh-grader Sam Toolin captured the boys' crown and Westerly eighth-grader Randi Burr was the first to cross the line for girls at Saturday's Middle School Cross Country Championships at Goddard State Memorial Park. Toolin covered the three-kilometer (1.8 miles) course with a time of 10 minutes, 34.1 seconds Will McConnell and Dante Proseda, eighth-grade teammates at Cole, finished second and third, respectively, to lead their school to the team title with a convincing 28-121 verdict over North Cumberland. Burr held off Curtis Corner eighth-grader Eleanor Lawler to win her title. Lawler was timed in 11:37.6. With three runners among the top eight, Barrington defeated runner-up North Cumberland, 53-73, for the team crown.
