To wrap up the indoor season we are taking a further look at the best athletes in each class . We are naming a girls freshman of the year as well as naming an additional top four athletes from the class of 2023.

Lewiston freshman Shurkri Deqow saved her best for the end of the season. Deqow exploded at the KVAC championship in the 55m hurdles clocking a 8.93 in the trials, and then smashing the freshman all-time best in the final with her winning 8.65 effort. At the Class A state meet Shurki opened with a 8.79 in the trials, and then crushed her personal best with a 8.43 in the final which placed her second, and broke her own freshman best, and moved her to a tie for fifth best all-time in the event.

Deqow also excelled at the 55m dash winning the KVAC title in a then personal best of 7.51, a time which she lowered at the Class A state meet with a 7.47 in the trials, she would go on to finish fifth in the final clocking 7.49. She ranked third in the class of 2023 in the event. Shurki was also a standout in the triple jump leading all freshman with her 34-8 3/4 effort that placed her fourth in the Class A state meet. She also the KVAC runner-up in the event.

For her outstanding performances in the championship meets Shukri Deqow is our indoor freshman of the year.


Anna Connors (Bangor) Connors had a great first year campaign that saw her clock the fastest times over 200m (26.34) and 400m (59.61) in the class of 2023 along with the second best effort at 55m (7.46). Anna helped the Rams win the state title with a pair of third place finishes in the 200m, & 400m, plus two more points in the 55m. She ranked overall in the state for both the 200m & 400m dashes.



Addie Fuller (Marshwood) Fuller was the top distance runner in the class of 2023 this winter clocking  5:36.87 in the mile, and a 12:04.69 for two miles. She added a 2:35.73 effort over 800m as well good for fourth best amongst all freshman. Addie finished third in the 2 mile at the Southwesterns Championship.



Grace Willey (Old Town) Willey was a standout jumper and hurdler this winter scoring in three events at the Class B state meet. Grace was tied for the best high jump 5-0 among all freshman, and would go on to finish fourth at the state meet in the event. At the Class B state meet she leaped a personal best 16-0 3/4 to finish fifth, her mark was tops in the class of 2023. Willey was also a strong hurdler recording the second best effort 8.94 in the freshman class, she went on to place sixth at states in the 55m hurdles.


Grace Tardif (Biddeford) Tardif put together a fine freshman campaign that saw her post marks of 5-0 in the high jump, 9.73 in the 55m hurdles, and 14-11 1/4 in the long jump. Grace closed the season very strong in the high jump recording 5-0 marks the last weeks which included a third place finish at the Southwestern, and fifth place effort at the Class A state meet. Tardif tied for the best high jump among all freshman, ranked third in the hurdles, and had the sixth best long jump.
