To wrap up the indoor season we are taking a further look at the best athletes in each class . We are naming a boys freshman of the year as well as naming an additional top four athletes from the class of 2023.

Cony freshman Conor Morin has quite a rookie campaign in 2019-2020 that saw him stand atop the podium at the Class B state meet after winning the high jump. Morin cleared a personal best that day of 6-3, and showed he's a performer with a serious of black flips after setting his personal bests. His 6-3 clearance broke the all-time state freshman record set by Old Town freshman Corbin Flewelling back in December of 6-1. Morin advanced to the New England Championship where he cleared the opening height of 6-1, his effort placed him 12th.

Morin wasn't just a high jumper, he excelled at the long and triple jumps as well. Conor won the KVAC Class B triple jump title with a personal best leap of 41-11 1/4. The mark set a new freshman all-time best in the event. At the state meet he made the podium with a fifth place effort of 40-10 1/4.  In the long jump the freshman leaped a best of 20-0 3/4 at the state meet to finish fourth overall.

With his two freshman Maine all-time best, a state title in the high jump, and total of 17 points scored in the Class B state meet Conor Morin of Cony is our indoor track & field freshman of the year.

Behind Conor Morin the class of 2023 had some other talented athletes here are four others that stood out during the indoor 2019-2020 season.


Parker Killiard (Scarborough) - Killiard had the top times in both the 200m (24.87), and 400m (53.78) for the class of 2023. Killiard was also ranked fourth in the long jump (19-3) and seventh best in the 55m (7.20). Parker won the SMAA junior 400m title. His 400m time qualified him for the freshman 400 at the New Balance Indoor National meet.



Corbin Flewelling (Old Town) - Flewelling set a freshman all-time best in the high jump in his first meet with a 6-1 clearing, record lasted until the Class B state where Morin broke it. Corbin was on the podium twice in the Class B state meet as he popped a personal best of 40-11 to finish fourth, he added a 7th place effort in the long jump. He added a PVC-EMITL title in the high jump and was the runner-up in the triple jump.



Charlie Collins (Hampden Academy) - Collins was the top distance runner for the Class of 2023 indoors as he recorded top times at the 800m (2:06.72) and Mile (4:41.70). Collins ran a leg on the third place Class A 4x800 squad for the Broncos, and also competed in both the mile (13th) and 800m (10th). Charlie also had the second fastest 2 mile (10:45.28) and the fourth best 400m (56.03) for all freshman statewide.



James Cognata (St Dom's) - Cognata had an excellent first year campaign that saw him clock the second ranked performances among all freshman in the 400m (54.61), 800m (2:07.88) and Mile (4:41.95). James ran a leg on the winning Class B 4x800, also was on the podium in the 800m with a fifth place 2:08.93 effort. He won the WMC Championship 800m title as well.
