State Meet Boys' Preview: It's Anybody's Guess Who Will Snare Individual Honors on Sunday

Aidan Tierney, Hendricken

We picked Tierney based on his exciting, down-to-the-wire victory in the Class A meet where he edged La Salle's Jack Wilbur and Toll Gate's Nikolas Reygadas at the line with his time of 16:14.27. But really, it could be anyone of at least four more of his Hendricken teammates, too. As we know, the Hawks, who are favored to claim their first team title since 2013, are a close-knit bunch. And it wasn't any different at the class meet where Jack McMahon, Jonathan Iamarone, Luke Henseler and Sean Meehan were eight seconds or less behind Tierney. This is a race that we believe will have at least a half dozen runners (possibly more) still in contention with a half mile remaining. Don't be surprised if a few of them are wearing a Hawk singlet. If Tierney can pull it off, he'll join his brother Colin, a 2013 winner, as an individual champion. They'll join a very short list of sibling victors. Hope's Hollie (1968) and Willie Walton (1971) are currently the only brother tandem to each win an individual title.
