AAU Junior Olympic Games: Sheridan Takes Decathlon, Breaks Rhode Island Mark!

East Greenwich's Connor Sheridan struck gold at the AAU Junior Olympic Games on Sunday.

The versatile junior captured the age 17-18 decathlon with a new state record of 6,103 points. Sheridan broke the 2015 mark of 6,034 points by former North Kingstown star Ben Stewart at the 2015 New Balance Nationals Outdoor (NBNO) Championships.

Sheridan, a tenth-place finisher in the decathlon at NBNO in June, set three personal records among the 10 events. He clocked a PB of 11.71 in the 100-meter dash and also had bests of 40-7.75 in the shot put and 52.69 for the 400m. He scored the most points (798) in the 110m hurdles where he was timed in 15.43. He also scored more than 700 points in the 100m with 709. In all, Sheridan bettered six of his event scores from the nationals last month.
