Hawks Prevail At Freshmen State Meet


Bishop Hendricken prevailed Wednesday night at the Freshmen State Meet.

But it didn't come easy.

The Hawks held off strong efforts from Central High and La Salle Academy before taking home their crown. Hendricken finished with 82 points. The Knights placed second with 68 points and the Rams accumulated 61 points for their third-place showing.

For the day, Hendrocken collected just one win, a victory from Henry LeClaire in the high jump. The Hawks scored 48 of its points from a half dozen runner-up finishes (4x200-meter relay, 3,000m, 1,500m, 600m, 4x400m, high jump).

La Salle's Max DiMuccio was a triple-winner. DiMuccio broke the tape in the 3,000m with a time of 9 minutes, 12.80 seconds. He also took the 1,500m (4:21.03) and the 1,000m (2:44.25). In the 1K, DiMuccio edged Classical's Connor Murphy by .33 of a second.

As expected, Central scored a considerable amount of points from its sprinters. The Knights earned gold in four events. Bryan Cosme led a 1-2-6 finish in the 300m with a fast 38.51 clocking. Teammate Steven Morris also broke 40 seconds with a time of 39.96. Morris was first across the line in the 55m dash, out-leaning West Warwick's Jacob Lamothe with a time of 6.93. Lamothe was timed in 6.95. Central also copped the 4x400m (3:52.47) and 4x200m (1:38.96) relays

Lincoln's Kyle Molson captured the 25-pound weight with a heave of 48 feet, 3 inches. He also took the shot put with a distance of 41-11.
