Tolland Captures Div. 1 Girls' Title At Ocean State


Highlighted by a 1-2 finish from Katherine DeLoreto and Hayley Collins, Tolland High captured the team title in the Varsity Division 1 race at Saturday's Ocean State Invitational, held at Goddard Memorial State Park in Warwick, R.I. DeLoreto won the individual crown with a time of 18:19.42 for the fast five-kilometer course. Collins was second with a time of 18:29.71. Teammate Michael Caron also cracked the top 10 by taking sixth with a 19:39.14 clocking. Sidney Perryman was 11th in 19:58.73. Tolland collected 76 points to runner-up Hopkinton (MA), which accumulated 91 points. 

In the Championship races, Immaculate sophomore Angela Saidman posted the fastest girls' time for CT with an 18:42.59 effort, good for third overall. Amity's Kyle Beaudette was fifth in the boys' Championship race with a time of 15:53.02.

Tolland's Alec Sauter had one of the most exciting races of the afternoon. Sauer edged Sam Dykoff of Hopkinton (MA) at the line in the Junior Varsity Division I race with a time of 18:01.28 to Dykoff's 18:01.56.
