Toolin, Burr Fastest For R.I. At Ocean State Invite

Despite not feeling 100 percent, North Kingstown sophomore Sam Toolin still found a way to post the fastest time of the day for Rhode Islanders at Saturday's Ocean State Invitational. In the meet's Championship race, Toolin battled up front for most of the five-kilometer distance and eventually finished second overall with a time of 15 minutes, 44.81 seconds at Goddard Memorial State Park. Cumberland's Ben Drezek was eighth overall at 16:06.65. Finishing ninth was Westerly's Matt Walker at 16:09.98. New York's Noah Carey defended his title from last year with a near course record of 15:30.59.

In the girls' Championship Race, Westerly's Randi Burr matched the placement of Toolin, taking runner-up honors with a swift 18:28.27 clocking. Winning the individual title was Natick's Grace Connolly with a near sub 18-minute time of 18:00.06. Also cracking the top 10 for RI was North Kingstown's Lily Nunnery (seventh, 19:06.72) and Cranston East's Shayna Cousineau (ninth, 19:11).
