FAST TRACK athletes earn trip to Nationals

Athletes from the Central Falls-based FAST TRACK track & field club excelled at the USATF T&F Region 1 Junior Olympic Championships  this past weekend at the University of Albany in New York.

Jalexis Susanathe USATF-New England runner-up, placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1 minute,10.97 seconds at the Region 1 meet. Amare Fortes took fifth in the 200m dash with a personal best time of 27.97.

The USATF-NE Junior Olympic champion age 11-12 girls' 4x100m relay team of Amani Rodrigues, Janiya Ocampo, Jaylin Fernandes and Tatiana Goncalves placed third at the Region 1 meet with a time of 59.57

The USATF New England Junior Olympic champion age 11-12 boy's 4x100m relay team of Ibrahim Doumbouya, Kavon Almeida, Alex Maia and Nasaiah Sheldon captured another title by winning the Region 1 crown with a time of 57.11.

With their respective finishes at the regionals, these 10 athletes from FAST TRACK qualified for the USATF National Track & Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif., to be held from July 26-31.

Right now, according to their coach Ernest Fennell, the biggest challenge these athletes will face is raising enough money to make the well-deserved trip out west to compete in the Nationals.
