Briere tops field at Throwers Pentathlon


A Classical thrower gets ready to unleash the hammer in Tuesday's Cumberland Throwers Pentathlon at Tucker Field. The five-event competition was won by Woonsocket''s Jared Briere with 2,175 points.

Woonsocket High's Jared Briere totaled the most point on Tuesday at the Throwers' Pentathlon, held at Cumberand High. Briere accumulated 2,175 points, and won the hammer throw with a toss of 195-1 (59.46 meters). The 'Novans' Dilyn Cote was the shot put champ at 43-1.75 (13.15), while Johnston's Kyle Nelson took the discus with a mark of 134-2 (40.90). Even Givers, of Lincoln High threw the javelin a winning 136-1 (41.49). Woonsocket captured team honors with a score of 5,477.
