North Kingstown and Barrington were the respective boys' and girls' team champions at the annual Cumberland Freshmen-Sophomore Invitational on Saturday. The Skipper defeated second-place Barrington, 93-68. Cumberland was third with 67 points. The Lady Eagles were a 92.2-67.5 victor over Central, while West Warwick settled for third with 58.2 points.
Multiple winners were in abundance in the five-hour meet, held at Tucker Field.
Cumberland sophomore Chris Choquette took care of the hurdle events, breaking the tape in the 110-meter high hurdles 16.0 seconds and the 300m IH at 47.20. He also lent his foot speed on the Clippers' victorious 4x100m (47.20) of sophomores Michael Kwara, Denser Martinez and Matt Remavich.
West Warwick Cody Stetson soared the a height of 5 feet, 6 inches to win the high jump. He also took thelong jump (19-6.5) and was second in the triple jump (39.30), an event won by Woonsocket's Joshua Correia with a distance of 39-4.75.
Evan Grivers, a sophomore from Lincoln took the shot put (42-4.5) and the hammer (152-10). He was also second in the javelin with a heave of 130-06.
