Eleven State Records That Could Be Broken

Boys' 3,000m

RECORD: 8:23.3, Andrew Springer, Westerly- Hendricken Invitational, May 30, 2009

When former Westerly great Andrew Springer set this record seven years ago, it seemed like it would be a long time until someone could break, or even come close, to it.  Now there's potential for two or even three to go under the mark this spring, and they're all from the same team. La Salle Academy's talented trio of Jack Salisbury, DJ Principe and Matt Bouthillette have all proven that they're capable of breaking the record, which converts to an 8:59 for two miles. Principe broke Springer's indoor record at the Yale Track Classic when he ran a best of 8:26.51. He also dipped under his two-mile record with his 8:59.05 win at the New England Championships. The only thing that might prevent this record from being eclipsed is the lack of quality races to do it.
