Another State Meet to Remember

Fitting Finish

With Jack Salisbury and Matt Bouthillette moving on to college next fall, the state meet marked the last time the La Salle Academy teammates will compete together with junior DJ Principe, a gifted trio that has produced more than their share of highlights the last few years..The nationally-ranked runners couldn't  have had a more appropriate final race together at this weekend's meet. Trailing Bishop Hendricken by two points, Salisbury, Principe and Bouthillette swept the top three positions in the 1,000-meter run to solidify the Rams third straight team title, an eventual 83-66 victory over the second-place Hawks. Earlier in the meet, Salisbury won his third straight crown in the 1,500m to become the only runner in the 61-year history of the state meet to win three consecutive 1,500m/mile races. Principe won the 3K for the second straight year and also placed second in the 1,500m. Despite not feeling well, something that was clearly visible in his 3K race where he collapsed at the finish after placing fifth overall, Bouthillette gutted out a third-place finish in the 1,500m and 1K.
