Seven Bold (and not so Bold) Predictions for this weekend's T&F State Championships

Sub 4 for Sam

After his win at the Class A meet, where he cruised to a winning time of 4:07, we asked North Kingstown's gifted freshman Sam Toolin his goal for the states. Without hesitation, the Skippers' nationally-ranked frosh stated he wants to break four minutes for the 1,500m. We think it will happen. Sam is one of the gutsiest runners in the state and ALWAYS performs best when the stage is at its' biggest. He did it at the cross-country state meet where he placed fourth overall. He did it at the Nike Cross Nationals Northeast Championships where he led briefly and eventually finished ninth overall. He also did it last month at the Yale Track Classic where he got into the seeded heat of the mile at the last minute and took advantage of the situation by placing second with a PR of 4:22. The quality of the field for this weekend's race could produce several sub-4s and we expect Sam to be one of them.
