Salisbury, Colantonio commit to Division I powers

La Salle Academy senior Jack Salisbury and Barrington HIgh senior Bobby Colantonio have secured their college destinations for the next four years.

Salisbury, a multiple all-stater and 4:06 miler, committed to Georgetown University this morning. The Ram standout, who will be competing at this weekend's Class A meet, will be the second high-profile track athlete from R.I. competing for the Hoyas in the last few years. Former Westerly great Andrew Springer, a holder of several R.I. state marks and a national indoor champion in the mile, recently graduated from the Washington, D.C., school and now competes professionally.

Colantonio, one of the nation's top weight-throwers, will be taking his skills to the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. The Eagle standout is coming off a terrific summer where he won the hammer throw at the USATF Junior Nationals and Junior Olympic Nationals. He was also fifth at the IAAF World Youth Championships in Cali.
