Performer of the Week: Mars Bishop, Barrington High

Beginning today and featured every Monday during the cross-country and track seasons, MileSplit RI will recognize a Performer of the Week, an athlete we feel was a cut above the rest during the past week.

This Monday our Performer of the Week is Barrington High junior Mars Bishop. Mars began the fall campaign by capturing the Croughan Race at the season-opening Injury Fund Carnival with a time of 15:28. Shortly after that performance, Mars came down with mononucleosis and missed most of the last few weeks of racing. On Saturday at the Brown Invitational, the Eagle standout proved his illness is now in the rear-view mirror and he once again should be considered as one of the top harriers for the upcoming state meet. Mars finished as the fastest R.I. finisher at the regional meet, placing eighth overall in the Championship Race with a personal best of 15:22 for the five-kilometer distance.
