Athletes to Watch: Mars Bishop

Mars Bishop, BARRINGTON

At the indoor state meet, Mars was one of the top stars. The Barrington sophomore scored 18 individual points by winning the 600-meter run and placing second in the 1,000m. He also ran the anchor on the Eagles’ runner-up 4x800m squad. Mars may need similar results at this weekend’s state meet for Barrington to pull off the team victory and this talented runner is certainly capable. Mars ranks No. 2 in the 800m with a time of 1:58.2 and is No. 6 in the 1,500m with a personal best of 4:02.5. With a field that includes several runners under four minute, Mars will more than likely have dip under that mark to earn a top finish. Based on his victory at the Hendricken Invitational last Saturday where he ran solo for the last 500m and still improved on his current best by three seconds, there’s no doubt he can do it. The question is will he be able to come back and place high in the 800m as well to score some valuable points. Our advice: Don't ignore him.
