Emma McMillan (BARRINGTON)
When it comes to the state meet, you can never count out Emma. She's proved that during the cross-country season where she has won the last three state titles. Last year the Barrington junior didn’t compete in outdoor track due to an injury and in ninth grade she was just getting started on the oval. She appears ready now to challenge the leaders. Emma will be competing solely in the 3,000m and will have the freshest legs of all the top contenders. She goes into the state meet with a best of 10:15.30, which she did at the Class Bs after also winning the 1,500m with a near PR of 4:42. Don’t be surprised if she tries to improve on her 3K time substantially at the states. With her unmatched mental focus during crunch time, it’s quite possible Emma will break 10 minutes at the states. You can't rule it out.
