Cumberland Invitational: Rams hold off Sentinels; Skippers' Bolibruch takes both hurdle events

Two squads strong on depth battled it out for team supremacy Saturday afternoon at the Cumberland Invitational.

In the end, it was La Salle Academy that went home with the hardware with a narrow 80-77 win over runner-up Smithfield High at Tucker Field.

The Rams' Eliza Rego established a meet with a convincing victory in the 3,000-meter run where she was timed in 10 minutes, 2.70 seconds. Senior teammate Sheridan Wilbur edged Cumberland's Nicole Barger in the 800m run with a time of 2:17.50 to the Clipper senior's 2:17.90 effort. The Rams also copped the 4x400m relay with a combined time of 4:10.80.

In the 1,500m, Narragansett junior Marissa McPhillips won by more than five seconds with a time of 4:49.20.

North Kingstown freshman Tereza Bolibruch was a double winner, taking both hurdle events. She won the 100mH at 15.40 and was first in the 300mH in 47.90.

Hope dominated the sprint events with senior Quashira McIntosh breaking the tape in the 100m dash at 12.0 and junior Chevell Burgess a victor in the 200m at 25.80. Both teammates were also part of the Blue Waves' winning 4x100m squad that was timed in 48.10.

Defending state high jump champion Carly Timpson copped her specialty with a heaight of 5 feet, 1 inch. Classical senior Alva Hicks withstood a tight challenge from Toll Gate's Courtney Jacobsen in the hammer with a winning distance of 167-9. Jacobsen secured second at 166-09.
