Eye on NBNI: Bobby Colantonio, Barrington High

Throughout the week, RI MileSplit will feature some of the top athletes that will be competing at the New Balance Nationals Indoor Championships this weekend (March 13-15).

Bobby Colantonio, Barrington

Occupying the top three spots in the national rankings, the 25-pound weight has a great chance to be a very prosperous event for the Ocean State. Bobby is No. 2 behind defending champion and senior teammate Adam Kelly with a best of 79-9, which he did to place second to Adam at the indoor state meet on Feb. 21. The Eagle star has been particularly strong behind the cage lately, achieving 76-plus feet in five of his last six meets. As evident by his performance at the states, Bobby is capable of breaking 80 feet. That a distance he'll more than likely have to uncork this weekend if he wants any chance at upsetting his teammate and winning the title outright. Securing second won't be an easy task, too. Right behind is another Rhode Islander, Moses Brown's Owen Russell, who is ranked No. 3 nationally with a 75-8.25 best.
