Rhody middle-schoolers excel at Ocean State meet

Rhode Island had two individual winners and five team champions during the middle school competition at the eighth annual Ocean State X-C invitational on Friday afternoon.

Cole's Grace McDonald earned gold in the sixth-grade event with a time of 8 minutes, 9.78 seconds for the 2,000-meter course at Goddard State Memorial Park. McDonald was more than 10 seconds ahead of North Cumberland's Olivia Belt, who placed second at 8:20.04. Maxwell DiMuccio of St. Margaret School in Rumford, took the seventh-grade boys' division with a 6:53.14 clocking. In the eighth-grade boys' race, Wickford's Sam Toolin came out on top with a 6:32.81 clocking. Gallagher's Joe DosReis was second in 6:51.96.

R.I. swept the team titles for girls with Wickford (sixth grade), Gallagher (seventh grade) and Wickford (eighth grade) earning the plaque. North Cumberland (sixth grade) and Wickford (seventh grade) captured the boys' crowns for the Ocean State.
