Oregon-bound! R.I. athletes heading to USATF Junior Outdoor Championships

Some of the nation's best high school athletes (age 19 and under) will be competing inside the University of Oregon's famed Hayward Field this weekend for the USATF Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The select few (six to be exact) from Rhode Island that will be making the cross-country trek, include Classical's Alva Hicks and recent grad Maddy Berkson (Stanford University), Barrington's Adam Kelly and grad Charlie Ionata (Wake Forest), South Kingstown grad Mahlik Handley (Rhode Island) and Central grad Clarence Gallop (Charleston Southern University). The top two finishers in each event advance to the IAAF World Youth Championships the last week in July, also at Hayward Field.
