NORMAL – For the second straight year the Alabama A&M’s athletics department was presented a check for $1500.00 for each sport at the Bulldog Club’s annual membership breakfast.
All Maroon & White sports received $1500.00 for their department including the athletic training office, and strength & conditioning coach James Hester for equipment.
The two-time Black College Cheer and Dance Competition champions, the A&M cheerleaders, received $1,000.00, while Coach Andrew Lee received $10,000.00 to renovate the strength & conditioning room in Elmore Gymnasium.
The breakfast was a success with attendance reaching over 100. During the annual event participants learned Louis Crews was the only coach who has coached both a baseball World Series champion and a football super bowl champion. The patrons also learned that James Finley is currently the oldest living football player who suited up on “The Hill”.
The breakfast itself was a gathering of true maroon and white supporters and the coaches and staff from the athletics department.
The gifts will be used to help offset costs, but most importantly, will provide scholarship opportunities for Bulldog student-athletes and future recruits that will help grow the Athletics department as we head into the 2011-12 season.
