Athletes To Watch: Andrew Mah, Newton North

For the next few weeks, MileSplit MA will features some of our top individuals this outdoor track & field season in our Athletes To Watch series. Who are the athletes that should make an impact this spring? We'll do our best to let you know.

Athletes To Watch: Andrew Mah, Newton North

Judging by the way he ran the final month of the indoor season, we're expecting this Newton North standout to finish his high school career in style this spring. Mah earned All-American status at the New Balance Nationals a few weeks ago by placing fifth in the 5K. He also clocked 9:13 or faster in his last three two-mile races at the All State Meet, New England Championships and NBN. With a well-deserved rest in between seasons, Mah should be raring to go during the outdoor campaign. His outdoor best of 9:15.38 from the Coaches Invitational should be erased by early May. We're looking for the Tiger all-stater to continue to challenge his chief rivals, St. John's Prep's Tristan Shelgren and Arlington's Ryan Oosting. Oosting is the favorite to defend his title in the 2M this year. Once again, Mah should be challenging for a top placement at the state level (and beyond) with potential to run low nine minutes for two.
