There were plenty of meets to choose from this past weekend. There was also plenty of outstanding efforts by our MA athletes.

Medfield's John McNeil made his way to the top of the state rankings in the high jump by winning the event at the Freshmen-Sophomore Small School meet on Sunday with a clearance of 6 feet, 6 inches. Also in the jumping events, Milton's Smith Charles earned gold in his specialty with a leap of 22-3.25 at the Dartmouth Relays. Dartmouth also saw impressive victories from Innovation Academy's Aiden Felty (54-10.5)  in the shot and Lowell's Sprint Medley Relay, which was timed in 3:41.73 (US #14).

Franklin's Tyler Brogan smashed the meet record for the mile at the Freshmen-Sophomore Large School meet where he ran an indoor best of 4:26.75. Lowell's Richmond Kwaateng was a double-winner at the Frosh-Soph. event, winning the long jump and setting a meet record in the 55m dash where he ran 6.46 in his preliminary heat. He later broke the tape with a first-place time of 6.54. During Sunday's action, Wakefield Memorial's Tanner Jellison ran one of the fastest times nationwide by a tenth-grader this season in the 1,000m where he was timed in 2:37.92.

In New York City, Newton North's Theo Burba ran a fast 1:56.77 for 800m at the US Army Hispanic Games.
