La Salle's DiMuccio, RI Girls Shine At NE Meet


Recent state champion Bishop Hendricken finished third at New England meet.

With five finishers among the top 10, Rhode Island girls made a strong presence at Saturday's New England Championships, held in Belfast, Me.

Three-time state titlist Ellie Lawler of South Kingstown was second overall with a time of 17 minutes, 48.55 seconds. Portsmouth's Nikki Merrill was third, also cracking 18 minutes with a PR of 17:50.68. La Salle's Emily Kane (seventh, 18:08.84),Portsmouth's Elizabeth Sullivan (eighth, 18:09.22) and Westerly's Randi Burr (tenth, 18:14.61) also earned All-New England honors. The race was won by New Hampshire's Julia Robitaille of Manchester West, who was timed in 17:31.65. La Salle placed sixth as a team with 238 points.

La Salle sophomore Max DiMuccio Turned in an impressive fourth-place performance to finish as the top Rhode Islander in the boys' competition. Hendricken's Aidan Tierney was 20th overall in 16:06.73. As a team, the Hawks were third overall with 126 points. La Salle was fourth with 159.
