Big Wave, MacDougall Invites This Weekend


There are two meets slated for this Saturday for Bay State athletes, both of which shy away from the standard 5K distance.

At the Saunders Recreational Center in Tewksbury, there's the 21st annual Bob MacDougall 3K Invitational The meet consists of four races - two freshmen and two Open events. In 2016, Melrose's Adam Cook posted the fastest time of the day, winning the boys' race in 10 minutes, 6 seconds.

TIME SCHEDULE

8 a.m. - Course Open For Preview

9 a.m. - Boys' Open 3K

9:20 a.m. - Girls' Open 3K

9:45 a.m. - Freshmen Boys' 3K

10 a.m. - Freshmen Girls' 3K

On the campus of Apponequet High is the fifth annual Big Wave Invitational. This meet will consists of six races, two middle school, two freshmen/sophomore and two junior/senior events. The middle-schoolers will traverse a 1.5-mile layout, while the high-schoolers will compete on a 2.5-mile course. In last year's Junior/Senior Race, Hopedale's Brandon Hall established a course record with his winning time of 12:50.17. Taking home team honors was Marshfield, which cruised to a 22-37 decision over runner-up Hopedale. The top girls' time was also recorded in the older division with Bishop Feehan's Abigail Long crossing the line in 15:36.85. The Shamrocks also took the team prize by a convincing 18-89 score over second-place Barnstable.
