This past week, Carmel's Kenneth Browner and Warren Central's La'Gretta Smith were named the USTFCCCA High School Track & Field Coaches of the Year in the state of Indiana for the boys and girls respectively.

Browner has been the head coach at Carmel since July of 2010 and recently guided the Carmel boys to the third consecutive Indiana state team title this past spring. Carmel has always been known for its great distance program and it was showcased with a 7:45 4x800 meter relay victory at the state meet, but Coach Browner's work strengthening the rest of the squad has been commendable including working with multi-event star Ryan Lipe. Lipe won the pole vault (17-3) and was a runner-up in the 100 meter dash (10.61) at the state meet.

Meanwhile, another Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference coach was bestowed the same honor for the girls in Warren Central head coach La'Gretta Smith. The Warren Central girls picked up a key 10 points in the final event of the state meet winning the 4x400 in a state leading time of 3:48.55 to take the team title with a total score of 55 points. Smith also coached an individual state champion in the 100 hurdles in Kayland Jackson with a 14.00 personal best clocking.
