Rhode Island Memorable Outdoor T&F Moments: Hendricken Duo Finish 1-2 At Class A Meet

Over the next few weeks, MileSplit RI will feature what we consider the best performances of the outdoor track & field season. This was an arduous task to undertake as there was an abundance of fine efforts turned in by our Rhode Islanders throughout this spring campaign. Here's our latest...

Joseph Rivera-Santos, Ethan Famiano

110m HH, Class A Championships - May 20

One of the most intense, closely-contested rivalries this season involved two hurdlers from the same team, Bishop Hendricken classmates Joseph Rivera Santos and Ethan Famiano. The two seniors were our top athletes in the 110-meter hurdles, taking the 1-2 positions in the Rick Schomp Invitational, Central Division Championships, Brian Moretti Invitational, Class A Meet,  Hendricken Invitational and State Meet. In most of the meets, Rivera-Santos and Famiano either recorded the same time or we're separated by a tenth of a second.

It was their 1-2 finish at the Class A meet that we believe was the best of them all. In typical fashion, the Hawk hurdlers were neck-and-neck over every hurdle. By the end, it was a mere lean by Rivera-Santos that would prove to be the difference in this one with both recording a state-leading 14.50. Famiano would return the favor two weeks later by winning the state title. You guessed it. Rivera-Santos nailed the runner-up spot.
