Hendricken Invitational Boys' 1,500m

The state's top runner, La Salle's DJ Principe, will be in Oregon, competing in the International Mile at the Prefontaine Classic. But that doesn't mean we won't witness any fast, quality times in the metric mile at Hendricken. The race is loaded with a talented field that makes it difficult to pick a clear-cut favorite. The No. 1 seed is La Salle's Joseph dos Reis, last week's Class A winner, who owns a best of 4:04. Also scheduled to compete are sub 4:08 guys such as North Providence's Nathan Coogan (4:05.90), Hendricken's Jordan Dagrin (4:06.0), North Kingstown's Ethan Wylie (4:07.0) and Cumberland's Ben Drezek (4:07.5). Look for the Clippers' Drezek to push the pace early, taking a tactical approach like last week's class meet out of of picture. The Rams' dos Reis clocked sub 4:20 for the mile during the indoor season, a time that computes to a 4:01. Coogan has 1:56 800m speed. This race has all the makings of a fast one with a time in the low four-minute range and several earning PRs with the right kind of race.
