Hawks, Classical's Murphy Star At Frosh States

Classical's Conor Murphy was a double-winner at the Freshmen State Meet.

Bishop Hendricken earned the team title at Tuesday's Freshmen State Meet. Fueled by four victories and their overall depth, the Hawks easily defeated runner-up Classical, 130-47. Central finished third with 45 points.

Classical's Conor Murphy was one of several outstanding performers in the meet. Murphy claimed two wins, taking the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4 minutes, 9.30 seconds, a clocking that ranks No. 4 among ninth-graders nationally. Finishing second was La Salle's Max DiMuccio at 4:11.30. Hendricken's Matt St. Jean placed third in 4:12.20. Murphy came back and edged St. Jean in the 800m with a 2:04.10 clocking. St. Jean crossed the line at 2:04.90.

DiMuccio won a competitive 3,000m race with a time of 9:20.50. Hendricken's Luke Henseler was second in 9:22.40. Prout's Michael King was timed in 9:23.0 for third.

Lincoln's Kyle Moison was a dominating victor in the hammer throw with a distance of 174 feet, 1 inch. Placing second was Philip Coppolino with a heave of 155-3.

Exeter/West Greenwich's Robert Hauser led three under 24 seconds in the 200m dash with a first-place time of 23.20. Hauser finished second to West Warwick's Jacob Lamonthe in the 100m with Lamonthe winning by .10 with his time of 11.20.
