PERFORMANCE LIST
The second state qualifier of the outdoor season will be held on Saturday when schools make their way to Narragansett for the annual Rick Schomp Invitational. The meet is scheduled to begin at 12 noon with the field events. The running events are set to go off at 1 p.m.
If the meet is anything like the 2016 event, be prepared for an exciting meet from start to finish.
At last year's Schomp Invite, then-freshman Sam Toolin of North Kingstown clocked the fastest time in the country for ninth-graders when he won the 800-meter run with a time of 1 minute, 55.2 seconds.
In the 1,500m, the La Salle trio of Jack Salisbury, DJ Principe and Matt Bouthillette swept the top three placements with Salsibury edging Principe with a meet record of 3:51.0. Principe crossed the line in second at 3:52.8 and Bouthillette was third in 3:56.5.
Central's Donatien Djero, who last week clocked a hand-held best of 10.2 for 100m, defeated teammate Austin Wolo in the 200m with a time of 21.5 to Wolo's 21.9 effort. The Knights went 1-2-3-5 in the event with Dametrius O'Connor (third, 22.3) and Franklin Mercado (22.5) also making it to the podium.
Westerly's Randi Burr was nearly seven-second ahead of the field in the 1,500m where she broke the tape at 4:43.80.
Former La Salle great Eliza Rego clocked one of the fastest times in the country in the 3,000m with a first-place time of 9:56.4.
Cumberland's versatile Meaghan Scullin won the long jump and 300m hurdles, where she was timed in a state-leading 45.3.
