Reilly Top R.I. Finisher At Boston Marathon

Former Bishop Hendricken all-stater Bronson Venable, third from right, accomplished his goal of running with the leaders at the start of Monday's Boston Marathon. He finished the race in 3:03:49.

Former Cumberland High standout Jason Reilly was the top R.I. finisher at Monday's Boston Marathon. The 34-year-old East Greenwich resident was 248th overall with a time of 2 hours, 42 minutes, 43 seconds.

Reilly, who averaged 6:13 per mile for the 26.2-mile distance, ran consistently from the Hopkinton start to the finish at Copley Square. He hit his opening 10 kilometers a 36:51 and went through the halfway mark in Wellesley in 1:18:08.

Providence's Thijs Kolet was next across the line for the Ocean State. He was 636th among the 30,000-plus participants in 2:50:56. Also breaking three hours was former North Kingstown all-stater Eric Lonergan, who was timed in 2:54:54, good for 894th overall

Bronson Venable, a onetime Bishop Hendricken star, finished the race in 3:03:49 (1,859th overall). But more importantly for Venable, who was our top R.I. finisher in 2016, is the fact he accomplished his goal of leading the race briefly at the start (see above photo).
