Cumberland Distance Classic Recap


A handful of schools were at Tucker Field on Saturday for the annual Cumberland Distance Classic.

Middle-distance specialist Nathan Coogan of North Providence captured the seldom-run 5,000-meter run with a quality time of 16 minutes, 33 seconds. Coogan out-distanced his teammate, Andre Solomon-Messier, who was second at 16:44.

Cumberland's Ben Drezek, the state record-holder for the 2,000-and 3,000-meter steeplechase, was timed in 6:03.5 in a makeshift 2K event that was minus the water jump.The Clippers' Ryan Mardo was first in the 3,000m at 9:48.3.

Cumberland's Julia Dempsey took the varsity 1,500m with a solid 5:08.7.
